2nd Annual Family Camp

Family Camp 2023

Family camp has come to be one of the most anticipated Defend the Fatherless events of the year. This year we were thrilled that God literally parted the weather and gave us a warm sunny day sandwiched between days filled with cold rain.

Families arrived early in the morning ready for a day of adventure. Some headed straight to the rock wall and conquered their fears as they climbed high so they could enjoy the thrill of the zip line. Others, were seeking adventure on the water. The lake quickly filled with paddle boards, kayaks and canoes.

Those we weren’t quite ready for adventure early in the morning headed to the craft cabin. They enjoyed making picture frames, painting rocks, and creating beaded jewlery as well as sand art.

By lunch time everyone had worked up an appetite. While the campers ate, Mr. Jim from the podcast, Short Stories with Mr. Jim read a chapter from his Book, “The Day We Saved the Lightbulb”. After some tasty chicken tenders, mac n cheese and ice cream everyone was ready to set out exploring of the afternoon. Whether they were braving the cold lake water, trying out archery or playing on one of the ball fields, everyone enjoyed the warm spring day.

We are grateful to our camp sponsor, Mr. Jim, the YMCA Camp Cherokee and all of our volunteers who made this memorable day happen.

Until next year…….
